Prayers for National Indigenous People’s Day

Blankets from nations across Canada laid out for a Kairos Blanket Exercise

Between National Indigenous People’s Day on June 21st, 2023 to Canada Day on July 1st we would invite you to join us in a daily prayer. The prayers provided were written by a collective seeking to provide a prompt for Churches across Canada. Please feel free to use these prayers privately or in corporate worship.

Prayer: We give thanks to the Creator for the rich diversity of Indigenous governments, economies, legal systems, spiritualities, languages, cultures and traditions that have been practiced by hundreds of nations and millions of people for thousands of years. We honour the deep relationship between Indigenous Peoples and the lands they’ve cared for since time immemorial. As that care continues, guide us and our governments to affirm Indigenous Peoples’ rights to land. We honour the significance that the land holds for Indigenous cultural and spiritual practices and for the families and communities who continue to hold these sacred connections.
